Well we are now have completed our first month of preschool.   Matthew is doing well and seems to enjoy it.  He is catching on to the routine quite nicely and participates in  all the activities.  I didn’t leave him there alone much the first couple weeks.  Now I am finding if I am not there he stays on task much better than when I am there.

In his class is a little Hispanic boy who does not speak English.  This little fellow cried every day the entire time for the first 2 weeks and now cries occasionally.
The Monday of the second week this little fellow just cried and cried and cried.  Well he was sitting behind Matthew in circle time just sobbing.  I though "OH great the sympathetic crier is going to start any moment and join in (referring to Matthew)"  Well, I stood by and watched ready for the rescue, Matthew kept turning around and looking at the boy, then he reached his hand back and patted his leg and rubbed his arm, he was comforting the boy.   Later that morning while they were in centers the little boy kept crying, Matthew was playing with a truck and the boy was playing with blocks (actually he was just standing by the blocks and crying).  Matthew drove his truck over to the blocks and parked it, then picked up a few of the blocks and started handing them to the little boy, they then together started building towers on the table and the little boy stopped crying.   It was like Matthew knew what the little guy needed.  And there was a lot to be said about communication and children at that moment. Here was this little guy who can't speak English and Matthew who signs playing together like they were best buds.

One of the days I stayed they were at lunch and Matthew was sitting at the table.  I pulled up a chair to sit next to him.  He gave me the devilish little grin, then grabbed his book bag and took off running across the cafeteria.  I took off after him.  When we reached the wall he just giggled, turned around and looked at me.  I leaned down to his level to fuss at him for leaving his seat and running   I got out  "Matthew, you..... " then he plants a big sloppy wet kiss right on the lips and smiles at me.  All I could do was take his hand and walk him back to his seat.  ( then I turned my back and cracked up laughing).

Can you say that when he comes home from preschool he is dead tired?
