My eldest surviving child Jonathan is only ours because of the way the news was broken, I strongly suspect that had his birth parents been handled with more compassion he may still be with them now.

Jonathan was discharged from hospital after his birth with no suspicion of problems, at ten days old his mother took a phone call from the hospital that went something like this:-

" Oh Mrs H.  It appears your son has Down Syndrome. Would you kindly make an appointment to see Dr S as soon as possible."

That was it end of phone call and one devastated mother.

When Dad came home from work three hours or so later he found his wife distraught, she managed to tell him what had happened.

He put the baby in his car seat took him back to the maternity department and left him with staff saying,

"We do not accept faulty goods from anyone!"

That is an horrendous account of what actually happened, fortunately it  happened 13 years ago and I am hoping lessons were learnt,

Those parents were not uncaring, heartless or any other bad thing anyone may want to say about them,

Once things settled down and they new he was settled with a family who wanted him more than anything else they began to accept what had happened, they wanted to have information and exchange photographs, they were upset and concerned and interested to follow his progress when his heart was diagnosed at 8 months, the hospital stuffed up big time over this child,

So yes, bad information does lead to rejection. I have the son to prove it.

Much Love
