Charity Soul Night, July 2003

Justin Simons kept everyone dancing all night long. |
Organising a soul night with all the
proceeds going to the DSRF was one of the most nerve-wracking but rewarding
nights of my life! When we first had the idea I knew we would get lots of
interest, Cliff has always been an avid ‘soul boy’ and Jamie’s Godfather (a
close friend) is a soul DJ on local radio station Soul City FM. This meant
lots of friends were also fans! The event was held at a The Warren golf driving range – a venue we were offered for free just because we asked! Justin Simons (the ‘godfather of soul’) managed to get it advertised on the radio and was on the decks all evening. We had generous donations of raffle prizes including an overnight stay at a golf club, haircuts, beauty treatments and a flight in a light aircraft! The icing on the cake was the auction. We were given a signed West Ham Utd football and a Craig David platinum disc award to auction. Our generous friends made sure these prizes went for a hefty sum and we made £680 on that alone. The raffle raised over £500 and after selling over 150 tickets and a generous donation of £500 from Cliff’s company the grand total came to £2,965. I’ve been asked if it’s going to be an annual event.
With offers untapped, friends who couldn’t make it and parents who had to
babysit – how can we say no! |

Jamie's Uncle Darren who made all the posters for the evening. Why the wig? Not sure! |
Must make sure Agadoo doesn't jump! |
