Pre-Xmas boogie 2005

Juliet and Katie Maguire had a fun filled pre-Xmas boogie party. They raised over £650 just dancing the night away!

Charity Soul Night, July 2003

Organising a soul night with all the proceeds going to the DSRF was one of the most nerve-wracking but rewarding nights of my life! When we first had the idea I knew we would get lots of interest, Cliff has always been an avid ‘soul boy’ and Jamie’s Godfather (a close friend) is a soul DJ on local radio station Soul City FM. This meant lots of friends were also fans!

The event was held at a The Warren golf driving range – a venue we were offered for free just because we asked! Justin Simons (the ‘godfather of soul’) managed to get it advertised on the radio and was on the decks all evening.

If you are running in a marathon please run for our charity.  The work we do is vitally important.  Our children can't ask for themselves so we ask for your help on their behalf.  There are events all around the UK where sponsors would be willing to support your effort on behalf of our children. Please contact us for more information.

The London Marathon is held in April each year. Runners are always needed and we always need sponsors.

Propecia Rally New Zealand

Nicky Grist awarded the Inmarsat Star of the Rally to Christian Loriaux, Technical Director of Ford Rally Sport. It was recognized that the work carried out by him and his team had produced the true star of Propecia Rally New Zealand, the Ford Focus RS WRC03. Ford have demonstrated that they have a car capable of taking on Peugeot and Citroen in the 2003 FIA World Rally Championship.

Christian Loriaux has decided to donate the cheque to a Down’s Syndrome charity that is to be nominated. "My son Max was born four years ago and was wrongly diagnosed with Down’s Syndrome. This was the hardest week of my life and it made me feel strongly for the families who find themselves in this situation," he said.

He receives a magnum of Champagne and US$5000 for the charity of his choice. (The DSRF was his chosen charity).

He will also have a star named after him in recognition of his stellar performance.

The award was presented to the engineering team of Chris Williams, Chris Gray and Carl Goodman. Nicky Grist presented the Inmarsat Star of the Rally trophy as head of the voting panel. "Christian is a worthy winner and the team have done a sterling job – the new car is a great feat in engineering. I think we are seeing here a fantastic car from a very radical engineer setting new standards in car design and setting the pace for other teams to follow," he said.

Want to do something a bit easier than running a marathon or winning a motor race?

Why not have a Garden Party?  Parents and Grandparents have run several of these events.  Rain or shine -  it's a lot of fun.
Friends and  neighbours will want to get involved.  Here are some ideas to get you started :
  • A BBQ and a Bring & Buy stall are a good start.
  • Home made ice cream was a big hit at one event.
  • A small private raffle can raise money before the event and during the event.   Local businesses will donate prizes. They are often very generous.
  • Hotels and restaurants may donate a Dinner for two.
  • A Travel agent might donate a weekend in Paris. These are prizes that have been donated in the past.
  • Ticket sales are often less than the value of prizes so you don't need a lot of prizes just a few good prizes.
  • If the event is not open to the public there should be no need for a permit but best to make sure and ask.

Tell us about the event and we will send a letter to allow the use of our Registered Charity number.

Joan Lockwood raised £400.00 for research with her garden party and they had a good time in spite of the torrential downpour of rain. Click here to see the photos.

Can You Collect Foreign Coins?
The EURO has replaced many currencies but we can still convert the old money into donations to help our children.

MY TRAVEL  -- Essex branches (Lakeside, Grays and Basildon) are collecting foreign notes and coins for us
We can get this money exchanged. These collections have generated £1600 to support our research programs. Foreign currency is lying around in everyone's homes. When the Euro came into use, a lot of foreign currency could not be changed, but we can get it changed. There is still lots of it about so why not collect this money for the DSRF?   ANY currency even a token is of value to us.   Visit My Travel at     http://www.uk.mytravel.com  & contact us if you have any foreign currency.

Charity Bike Ride 2001 - Birmingham to London
£5,000.00
was raised this year for children with Down’s syndrome. This is a record and a great achievement by the participants in the bike ride and for the members of the Sikh Arts & Cultural Association who run this event. Over 200 cyclists took part in this ride from Birmingham to London. A huge effort by everyone involved. click here to read about the event and see photo.

Lands End to John of Groats Bike Ride 2001
£1,135.00
was raised by Tim O'Shea and Richard Catling.  An event in which they enjoyed completing very much.  Richard has two young cousins who have Down's syndrome. He said; "It is an added pleasure to contribute towards such a worthy cause as yours."  Click here to read his letter

Sponsored Line Dance.   Cowboys and Cowgirls Line up now!
£634.00
was raised for the DSRF by Jean James through a sponsored line dance. £384 was raised through sponsorship and a further £250 was donated by her employer  The Royal Bank of Scotland.  This is a useful example to shows how willing employers are to help in boosting charity donations. Click here to see the photo.

Poppy Wilson (Age 10) can show you how to organize a Bring & Buy event.
£202.00
was raised by a Bring-and-Buy sale held at the Southam Primary School in Leamington Spa.  Poppy Wilson (age 10), together with friends Natalie King (age 11) and Olivia Austin (age 11) organised a bring-and-buy sale where they sold their treasured toys to raise money for charity. Click here to see photos.

These are just a few of the fundraising events where caring friends and relatives have raised money to help us to get medical research underway.  People who organize these events are are often apprehensive and worried that they might not succeed. But when the event is over, they are just amazed to discover that lots of friends and neighbours know about these children and they want to help them.

Most of our large donations come from these events so please let us help you to organize your event and we can provide information for you to hand out.  Let us know about your event and we will give permission to use  our charity number when collecting donations.
