It is normal to lose 50 to 100 hairs per day taking large doses of Vit A can trigger hair loss. Liver is high in Vit A so don't eat it. Check his diet to make sure there is nothing to cause a high Vit A intake. Rogaine by Upjohn contains 2% monoxidil and is approved by the USA FDA for treatment of pattern baldness. It is available at chemists but monoxidil is linked to heart changes over long periods.
Hypothyroidism can cause hair loss also linked to the
following fatigue, loss of appitite, inability to tolerate the cold, a slow heart
rate, weight gain, muscle weakness, cramps, dry and scaley skin, yellow orange colouration of the skin especially in the palms, yellow bumps on
the eyelids, hair loss including the eyebrows, drooping swollen eyes, TSH levels can be checked and an iodine absorption test may
also be performed low uptake of iodine is detected with an xray of
the pituiatory gland.
To test yourself check the temperature under the armpit (15
minutes keep still and quite) test when you wake up in the morning. A
temperature of 97.6° Fahrenheit or lower may indicate underactive thyroid if it is low for
5 days see your doctor.
I am not a doctor so this is not medical advice.
But you may need to see a doctor about this hair loss
problem. People with DS do have thyroid problems and standard testing may not detect
the problem. You may need to see a specialist who knows all about DS.
