We are a parent based medical research charity founded in July 1996.
Our objective is to alleviate sickness and illness and find treatments and
cures for the medical conditions which are collectively called Down's syndrome.
We initiate and sponsor medical research projects and undertake to freely
publish the results of that research as widely as possible.
We raise funds for medical research. We collaborate with other charities
and
organizations and we seek partners who will help us with these objectives.
We have Friends and Supporting members who help us to get medical research
underway and who raise funds and make donations in support of this objective.
We provide a wide variety of information through our website. But we do not
provide specific medical advice. Parents should consult their doctor when they
need specific medical advice.
Trustees are also Directors and they are appointed to office. Only
Directors have voting rights and they can appoint additional directors as
needed. Anyone who actively supports the need for medical research to help
children with Down's syndrome can apply to become a Director. If the
applicant can advance the fulfilment of the objective of the charity and is not
disqualified for any other reason then the application will be voted upon by the
existing Directors at the next quarterly meeting. Each year those
directors who have fulfilled their commitment to help the charity meet its
objectives during the year will be reappointed to office. Inactive
Directors must be nominated and seconded to get reappointed.
